Where to improve cycling infrastructure? Assessing bicycle suitability and bikeability with open data in the city of Paris

This study proposes a method that can help in identifying potential locations for improvements of cycling infrastructures. It addresses the need simple and effective methods to support decision-making bicycle planning. The city Paris is used as case area because it has made considerable efforts improve infrastructures become more bicycle-friendly recent years. (1) identifies on street level (2) considering accessibility important destinations. main data this project from OpenStreetMap (OSM) infrastructure Atelier parisien d’urbanisme (Apur). proposed be applied with commonly available data, clear outcomes, reproducible, different areas. We produced map suitability across all Paris, validated 30 longest segments lower bike suitability. Our validation showed combining OSM Apur led reliable dataset, which we modelled bikeability using underlying network overlain 250 m resolution grid destinations representing leisure activities, education, shopping, functions public transport. resulting regions poor bikeability, where should investigated.
